The Metropolitan Library System is a lot more than BOOKS!

The idea of a public library in Oklahoma City began in 1898 when the Philomathea Club, a women's study club, tapped local businessmen to donate money to purchase books and a bookcase. As the collection grew, a request for funds was answered by the famous philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, who donated $25,000 to construct the first library building which was completed in 1901.  Today, the Metropolitan Library System has 19 locations across Oklahoma County. Materials and services include books, eBooks, audiobooks, movies, music, podcasts, searchable databases, access to technology, community events, research assistance, special collections, historical archives, and more.

Join us this month to learn about the history of the Metropolitan Library System, the wealth of resources that are currently available and future plans for growth and improvement

Lisa Bradley, Librarian in Special Collections and Research for the Metropolitan Library System.

Lisa is passionate about sharing Oklahoma City’s fascinating history with anyone who is willing to listen. In her role as a librarian, she enjoys helping others find ancestors on their family trees as well as researching her own family history.  In her free time, she enjoy playing in the dirt (gardening), cutting up fabric to resew (quilting), and reading history books, historical fiction, and thrillers.
